"Oh say does that star-spangled banner yet wave / o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?" The question hangs over the characters of So Proudly We Hailed, like the flag behind them. From soldiers off to war, to students in school, the threat of gun violence is never far away in a country that values liberty at all costs.
A look at American culture and history through the lens of guns and gun violence, So Proudly We Hailed is a non-linear, ensemble piece, emphasizing the variance in opinions in this large and beautiful country. Created collaboratively, cast and crew all add their personal stories to the growing tapestry of the play.
Originally produced at New York University / Tisch School of the Arts / Department of Drama / Experimental Theatre Wing
“So Proudly We Hailed” is a theatrical stew, with all ingredients stirred by the show’s cast to suit the vexed theme of gun violence at its intersection with patriotism
